Netflix and advertising

Do you remember in one of the Sex and The City movie where Carrie read poetry from a book called "Love letters from Great Men"? Well, that instantly created a frenzy because every woman who saw the movie wanted to have a copy of the book for herself.

But, the book wasn't real at that time so everyone was disappointed (it is now available on Amazon, but who cares now?).
If you think about it, if the book was real, maybe it will all be a bubble similar to the .com or the Dutch Tulip bubble. However, clearly someone didn't think this through.

Now, I think Netflix has the chance to change all this, with its new show House of Cards.
I read this article about product placements in the show and I came up with an idea: why not sell everything from the show?
The outfits from this TV-show are exceptional and most likely will create a new trend just as Mad Men did. So why not have at the end of the show every piece of clothing for sale.
And of course why not add a good bottle of whisky, coffee or whatever drink they are having on the show... Phones, TVs and the list can go on...

Because everything is already online as Netflix is the only distributor - with a small change, it will be easy enough to implement the idea.

I don't know if it will work or not, but who knows? :)
Happy shopping!
